BIM Database Administrator

Design, develop, and implement a database to receive, store, and transfer data extracted from building information models (BIMs). Confer with research and development software engineers in order to establish database user needs. Examine the company’s existing database structures and make modifications with a view to optimizing data storage and data transfer mechanisms. Utilize programming languages such as C, C#, Java, Python, SQL, and MySQL to customize the database so that it may receive architectural designs in CAD format from programs such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks. Establish standards and guidelines for organizing data collected from BIMs and create libraries for project parameters. Collaborate with research and development software engineers to program a data transfer mechanism that will allow the database to automatically extract data from 3D models and export it as code that the company’s proprietary 3D printing software will execute. Implement and utilize backup and recovery procedures, including disaster recovery, and continuously monitor and test database activity for space or hardware issues and provide performance-tuning when required.

Experience acquired prior to the degree is acceptable. The position requires skills and knowledge in database development, C, C#, Java, Python, SQL, MySQL, AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
